Frankly, I’m less concerned about modding out Achilles’ videogame weak-spot ankle than I am in replacing him with his chilled-out himbo namesake from Hades. Mod support has been somewhat elusive on the Epic Games Store since the platform’s launch. Long-touted, the feature finally saw a limited beta for Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries over summer to very little fanfare. With Troytal War, the feature should finally be getting a proper test-drive. It’s Creative Assembly, not Epic, however, who’ve put together the hows and whats of modding the walls of Troy....

The game’s developer, Quintet, was pretty special, too. Airplane Mode plunks you in a cyberseat (a window seat, thank god!) for full simulated flights. Taxi, take off, land, and… largely just sit there. It can take you on a six-hour trip from JFK in New York to Reykjavik in Iceland, or a shorter two-and-a-half-hour flight from JFK to Halifax in Nova Scotia. But without the ‘responsibility’ and ‘paying attention’ of Microsoft Flight Simulator. You don’t even have the minor demands of Desert Bus....

Remedy say the remaster’s cutscenes, characters and “majestic Pacific Northwest vistas” have been visually enhanced, and it’ll come with both its expansions, The Signal and The Writer. Most people I know who played the game tend to rave about it, though Alec Meer found it “tedious” and “uninspiring” in his old Alan Wake review: “It has a setting and a tone that I really do thrill to, which makes me all the more downcast that its memorable shell doesn’t house a more satisfying game....

Looks pretty, looks fast. That’s my take based on watching the video, though Ed had more to say when he climbed inside Redout 2 for a pod race of his own. He found it more approachable than the first Redout, although it’s possible it’s too fast: I don’t think I realised how much the series is about customising your scifi speed racer. Redout 2 has 12 chassis to choose from and then lets you tweak its various parts, including “propulsors, stabilizers, rudders, intercoolers, flaps, magnets, wings, spoilers, rocket engines, paints and more....

New pretty event things aren’t the only interesting updates to the game, however. The developers have also fixed the awful muzzle flash problem, so now you can actually see who you’re shooting at when you aim down sights. That new game mode, Deja Loot, takes away the random loot spawns and instead makes it so everything always spawns in the same place, every match. I, for one, can’t wait to watch hordes of players drop on the one place they know the gold resurrection shield is....

After warping to a new location, Olympus is looking rather messy. Displaced objects and buildings litter the futuristic city, which should come as a welcome addition to those who dislike the Olympus of old for its large open areas. When Olympus was introduced in Season 7, it prioritised openness and long sightlines so that travelling in the new Trident vehicles was easy. This received plenty of criticism, as it led to players trading shots across huge swathes of empty space, with little need to get creative or use abilities....

The game begins with you and up to three friends landing on a mystical realm. You have to build a village and contend with a “deep NPC job system” to build your society before the Dead Winter comes. Because when the Dead Winter comes, that’s when the monsters drawn from Norse mythology appear. If the Aska trailer above seems less than useful - and seemingly unrepresentative of the screenshots above and on the Steam page - then at least you won’t have to wait long to the actual game in action....

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey released in 2018, but I hesitate to say it’s getting on a bit in case anyone thinks I’m making a joke about ancient Greece. If you haven’t played it yet, then it’s definitely worth diving into like a great big pile of hay. And it definitely is big. You can play as either Kassandra or Alexios, two Spartan siblings who end up dragged into assassinating shenanigans among the Greek islands of the distant past....
